Low high side pressure r22
The high pressure line coming off the compressor is hot so I guess the compressor is working. High and low side pressures are pretty close to R134a vapor pressure for temps of the lines at the connectors and there's frost on the expansion valve. Could all this be caused by insufficient refrigerant? I hooked them up, cranked the AC on and found that both the high and low pressure side were reading about 130 psi. I am trying to figure out why they would both be the same. I am thinking somewhere between the high and low sides inside the compressor is plugged or exploded.
The low side gauge indicates both pressure (psi) and vacuum (in/hg). If it does not go below zero, you have a sizeable leak and will need to correct it before you continue. Assuming you are showing a vacuum, let the pump run for five minutes, close the high side valve, and turn the pump off. Note the reading on the low side gauge.Open the low side valve to allow refrigerant to enter the system. Again, this may take some time as well. If he was expecting typical R22 high side pressures with MO99 (R438) R22 runs a 20 psi lower head pressure than R438. You need to have them send out a Tech that knows what he is doing. Note the reading on the low side gauge.On a hot day in Texas, high side ~380 psi low ~35+. This stays relatively the same when the car is off. I would have thought this might be high side blockage, orifice tube, but I also understand high side would be low pressure if there was a blockage.
