Mar 13, 2018 · you'll be fine running a carbine buffer system (and by system i mean a carbine buffer, carbine spring, carbine buffer tube) with a rifle length gas block on your barrel. i ran my rifle this way with a .308 barrel and a 6.5 creedmoor barrel and have had exactly zero issues with either set up. Conventional AR-10, SR-25 buffer springs are notorious for exhibiting wide variances in installed load height, compression and rebound performance, and even length. Unless you're using Tubb Precision springs in your rifle, not only are you frequently replacing springs, but rifle performance may be continually changing with each replacement. i have a ar15 with a carbine adjustable stock and same with an ar10. I noticed the ar10 .308 has a smaller spring and buffer … but still works after adding a rifle buffer tube and fixed A2 magpul rifle stock. but with the ar15 .223 its required to update to a rifle buffer and spring. why does the .308 work ?

A rifle gas system refers solely to the length of the gas tube. A rifle buffer system refers to the buffer, spring, and receiver extension. You can use rifle gas with a carbine buffer system. You can use mid-length or carbine gas with a rifle buffer system. You can not use a carbine buffer and/or spring in a rifle receiver extension.
